Reputation Ink publishes legal marketing ethics guide

January 24, 2020

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (January 24, 2020) — Reputation Ink, a marketing and public relations agency focused on law firms, has published a new resource for law firm marketers, the “Legal Marketing & Advertising Ethics Checklist.”

The checklist is designed to give law firm marketers a high-level understanding of the ethics rules, which vary state by state, but are all based on (but not identical to) the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Model Rules of Professional Conduct. The rules, which cover all forms of advertising, from the content on a firm’s website to social media and blogging, are written by lawyers, for lawyers, and are frequently updated.

“Law firm marketing and PR is not for the faint of heart,” said Michelle Calcote King, Principal and President of Reputation Ink. “Competition is fierce and clients are demanding more from their firms. The last thing marketers want to do is get their employer sanctioned by its regulatory body for violating ethics rules.”

While the checklist won’t substitute for closely reading and adhering to the rules in each state where a law firm practices or is seeking clients, it will give marketers an understanding of their basic principles.

The “Legal Marketing & Advertising Ethics Checklist” is available for download on Reputation Ink’s website.
